Frequently Asked Questions

Is ScentLabs free to use?
Yes. The free plan lets you create up to 10 formulas and manage up to 25 raw materials — no credit card required. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited formulas and materials, plus advanced features like batch production tracking and stock management.
View pricing →Does ScentLabs work on Windows, Mac, and mobile?
Yes. ScentLabs is a web-based platform — it runs in any modern browser on any device, including Windows, Mac, iPad, and Android. There is nothing to install. Unlike desktop-only apps, your data syncs automatically across all your devices.
How do I calculate the cost of a perfume formula?
ScentLabs automatically calculates the cost of each formula based on the price per gram of each raw material and the quantity used. Simply enter your material costs once and the formula cost is computed in real time. You can also export a detailed cost breakdown as a PDF.
Learn about cost calculation →How can I scale a fragrance batch to a different size?
The Batch Production tool lets you scale any formula to any total weight. Enter the target weight (e.g. 500 g) and ScentLabs recalculates every ingredient proportionally, preserving the exact olfactive balance. You can also track batch history, add QA notes, and deduct raw material stock automatically.
See batch production →Does ScentLabs generate IFRA certificates or SDS documents?
No. You can record the IFRA maximum percentage for each raw material as a reference, but ScentLabs does not check formulas against IFRA limits automatically and does not generate IFRA certificates or safety data sheets (SDS). Those documents should come from your suppliers or a regulatory specialist.
How does stock management work for raw materials?
In the Materials section you can set the current stock level for each ingredient. When you log a batch production run, ScentLabs can automatically deduct the quantities used. You can set a low-stock threshold per material and view a full usage history.
Explore inventory management →How does dilution tracking work in perfume formulas?
Each material in a formula can be assigned its actual concentration (e.g. Safranal at 1% in DPG). ScentLabs automatically calculates the effective pure-material contribution of each diluted ingredient, giving you an accurate picture of the formula's true composition and cost.
See the formula creator →Can I export my formulas and batch records?
Yes. ScentLabs lets you export formulas and batch records to PDF, ready for client presentation or internal documentation. Cost breakdowns are also exportable.
See the formula creator →How do I track formula versions?
Every time you want to try a variation, you create a new version of the formula. Versions are linked so you can always trace the evolution of a formula and compare any two versions side by side. You can also duplicate a formula to branch it into a new line.
Learn about versioning →What do I receive when I buy a formula?
The formula appears in your account with its full ingredient list, percentages, and dilutions, ready to compound. The public sales page describes the perfume; the formula in your account is what you weigh.
Browse formulas →Do I need chemistry training to use ScentLabs?
No. The tools assume you can weigh in grams and read a percentage. They do not replace a perfumery course, a safety assessment, or the judgment of how a material smells in a blend. They keep the arithmetic of dilutions, cost, batch size, and category limits in one place so that judgment has a record behind it.
Who owns the formulas I create?
Formulas you write are yours. ScentLabs stores them so you can open them on another device. A formula you buy stays available in your account for you to compound.
Can stock and batch scaling be used together?
Yes. You scale the formula to a target weight, then log the batch. Logging deducts the grams from each material that has a stock balance, and it stores the batch so you can see later what a bottle was used for. If a material would go below the level you set, you see that before you promise the pour.
